Tragic deaths of the miners & workers of Roro asbestos mines, ramming mass (quartz grinding) units due to incurable occupational lung diseases and accidental deaths of construction workers raised some of the basic questions in front of humanity and development. Misery & sufferings of the 5 million children of mining & industrial areas of Jharkhand because of premature death of their earning parents that also shattered the hearts of some of the activists in this area who felt urgent need of protection of environment, occupational safety & health and human rights of the workmen for ensuring child growth and social security of workmen’s families along with development is of paramount importance for a developing state like Jharkhand, where legislative bodies are not so strong to protect environment and provide social security to children women poor workers and downtrodden communities. In this circumstances Late Sailesh Kumar Carr an aircraft mechanic encouraged activists to form Occupational Safety & Health Association of Jharkhand (OSHAJ). One is social entrepreneur who deserted his job in 1989, a government schoolteacher, a metallurgist, two rural graduates and farmers and a women employee of private company formed OSHAJ on 24.11.2003. A Chest Specialist and ILO & WHO trained Doctor on dust diseases joined in 2006 as first Chairperson of OSHAJ later a Specialist in Medicine (present Chairperson) joined OSHAJ in 2007.
